Boat Club Productions was founded in 2021 to help bring theater back to the Spirit of the North Theatre in Duluth, MN. It’s been such an honor to have live theatre on the Spirit stage again, while also showcasing amazingly talented actors, actresses, and technicians from the Northland. This classic comedy opens on a friendly card game in the untidy apartment of divorced Oscar Madison. And if the mess is any indication, it’s no wonder that his wife left him. Late to arrive is Felix Ungar, who has just been separated from his wife. Fastidious, depressed, and none too tense, Felix seems suicidal, but as the action unfolds, Oscar becomes the one with murder on his mind when the clean freak and the slob ultimately decide to room together. The action unfolds with hilarious results as The Odd Couple is born.

Maeve
Female, 20’s-30’s. Waitress and aspiring actress. Dramatic, sarcastic, and sometimes brash.
Charlotte
Female, 30’s-50’s. Maître d’. Ambitious. Particular, uptight, and anxious when under pressure.
Don
Male, late 30’s-60’s. Manager of the restaurant. Slimy, chauvinistic, self-centered.
Jack
Male, late 20’s-early 40’s. Busboy. Has a middle-class British accent. Charming, curious, and sneaky.
Grace
Female, 20’s. Hostess. Loves to gossip and talks like a “valley girl.” RICK Male, 30’s-40’s. Head chef. Hothead, ex-con who acts tougher than she is.
Inspector Collins
Any gender, any age. An off-duty inspector who investigates the murder, but seems to be inept and clumsy.

There will be 4 slots for auditions. We will bring you in as a group to read sides. You may come at 3:00, 3:30, 4:00, or 4:30. We will start promptly at the start time. If you are late, we will have you wait until the next group comes in.
Casting 6 Men and 2 Women
Actors of all ethnicities, gender identities, and abilities are highly encouraged to audition.
Rehearsals
Rehearsals are scheduled to begin on March 2 and will take place at Fitger’s. Rehearsals will typically run from 6:00–8:30pm and increase in length as we move closer to opening. Specific characters and page breakdowns will be given at the first rehearsal. Actors not listed on the pages rehearsed will NOT be called. There is one skip week, March 27- April 3. No rehearsal will be called on weekends, unless needed.
There will be a scheduled break from March 21 through April 2, during which no rehearsals will be held. Rehearsals will generally not be scheduled on weekends unless deemed necessary.
Character Descriptions
Oscar Madison
A carefree, good-natured, divorced sportswriter who lives alone in a messy eight-room New York apartment. He is completely oblivious to dirt, clutter, and the overdue child-support payments about which his wife telephones weekly. He has his male cronies in for a weekly poker game with refreshments that invite food poisoning. Oscar’s lifestyle is abruptly turned around when he takes in
one of the members of the group, Felix Ungar, whose wife has thrown him out. Everything is now antiseptically clean, the food served to the poker players is appetizing, and there is money to pay his former wife, Blanche. Felix is so compulsive, however, that Oscar cannot live with him and forcefully requests that he leave. 4 scenes, 456 lines.
Felix Unger
A fussy man who knows that he is difficult to live with but cannot—or will not—make any concessions or compromises. His wife, unwilling to continue their marriage, asks him to leave the family despite his suicide threat, and he then moves in with Oscar. Made comical by his exaggerated behavior, Felix is persuaded by the end of the play to live temporarily with the Pigeon sisters, who pity him, but it is probable that they, too, will find him exasperating. 4 scenes, 386 lines.
Gwendolyn Pigeon
Oscar and Felix’s giggly upstairs neighbor, one of a pair of English sisters. She is a widow. 2 scenes, 66 lines.
Cecily Pigeon
Oscar and Felix’s giggly upstairs neighbor, one of a pair of English sisters. She is a divorcée. 2 scenes, 57 lines.
Speed
One of Oscar and Felix’s poker buddies. Gruff and sarcastic, often picking on Vinnie and Murray. 3 scenes, 64 lines.
Murray
A NYPD policeman, one of Oscar and Felix’s poker buddies. 3 scenes, 118 lines.
Roy
One of Oscar and Felix’s poker buddies. Oscar’s accountant. Roy has a dry wit but is less acerbic than Speed. 3 scenes, 64 lines.
Vinnie
One of Oscar and Felix’s poker buddies. Vinnie is mild-mannered and henpecked, making him an easy target for Speed’s verbal barbs. 3 scenes, 66 lines.

This is a fun show that will use many skills such as clowning and mime. For a show with so few words, we will examine each part and look for multiple ways to play. We are gathered here to make kids laugh. We will laugh in the process.

We will begin Monday, August 17th, and work weekdays from 6pm – 10pm. No weekends. For most rehearsals, we will need everyone present as it is an ensemble production.
Character Descriptions
Pastor E.L. Gunderson:
An agreeable man who knows that the church runs best when the kitchen is happy. Tenor to Baritone. Plays 40’s-50’s+.
Mrs. Vivian Snustad:
A widow and the undisputed (mostly) matriarch of “her” kitchen realm and all within it. First soprano. Plays 60+.
Mrs. Karin Engelson:
Second in line to take over the kitchen. She is neat and tidy, and is the mother of Signe, so she senses that change is definitely coming. Middle voice, 2nd soprano or first alto. Plays 40’s-50’s.
Mrs. Mavis Gilmerson:
She is a farmer’s wife and grandma. There is nothing she can’t fix and can jump in and work just about anything (she has to, because her husband is usually recuperating from some bizarre farm accident). She is the most physical of all the cast. Alto. Plays 50’s-60’s+.
Signe Engelson:
The daughter of Karin and has just started college at the University of Minnesota, all the way in “the Cities.” She visits the church kitchen often and endures gentle teasing about her romantic prospects. Middle Alto. Plays starting college age.
Come From Away

“Come From Away” is the award-winning Broadway musical that tells the story of 7,000 people stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland after all flights into the US were grounded on September 11, 2001. As the people of Newfoundland graciously welcomed the “come from aways” into their community in the aftermath, the passengers and locals alike processed what happened while finding love, laughter and new hope in the unlikely and lasting bonds they forged.

*We are looking for strong vocalists. We are NOT looking for belters. Singers who can blend and hold their own part harmonically are preferred.
*All performers need to be comfortable and able to portray MANY characters, accents, and speak different languages.
*Please be familiar with this show. You can find the album on Spotify or the ProSHOP on AppleTV+.
*All acting roles will receive a $1,000 stipend.
*If shows are added, an additional $100 stipend will be added per performance.
*Actors Equity will be considered. However, housing & airfare stipends are unavailable.
